4Works Perfectly
By Mark V
I purchased this for my 2003 Audi Allroad with the 5 disc in dash CD changer. Removing the stereo using the special keys proved the most difficult part of the process. Once removed it was simply a matter of plugging in and running the cables. I chose to run the cables to the passenger side foot area (there is a hole/access already). I chose to keep the unit in the floor area rather than having it behind the stereo. I chose to do this because of the suggestion in the included manual, so theoretically I can access the AUX input. In hindsite I wish I had put it behind the stereo as there is no good place to store it (I ended up using double stick tape). Why not 5 stars? The iPod 30 pin plug is massive and will interfere with nearly any case. I use this primarily with an old hard drive ipod without a case, but if I want to use it with my iPhone 4 I have to remove the bumpers case.Update: More than three years later I am still using the product without any major issues. I now have an iPhone 5 which works perfectly well using the Apple lightening to 30-pin adapter. I only wish my Audi was as reliable as this product has proven to be.My only complaint after having used it for so long is that the charging rate seems to be very slow and really just seems to maintain charge when the device is playing music.

4Works.
By Holly Whitney
The device was relatively easy to install in my 2007 Audi A3 with a concert radio (no disc changer). I had to sacrifice a coat hanger to make a hook to pull the cable through to the glove box. Otherwise, it was straight forward. Took about an hour. Would take a lot less for an experienced installer (a few minutes I would guess). You will need to buy the European radio removal tools also. If you buy from Crutchfield, they come for free, if you buy on Amazon, they are around $10. But, you still may get a better deal on Amazon if you shop around. It charges the 3G iPhone too. However, it will not pass the text display to the radio (for any iPod/iPhone), which can make navigation tricky. Dice tells me they will be making a new version for the Audi later this year, which will use the Sat output, rather than the CD changer output from the radio, and that this will allow the text display. It may be worth it to wait for that one. However, there are different modes - if you want, you can run it not controlled via the car radio, and just use the audio out form your iPod and control it from the iPod. But, you lose audio quality and you lose the ability to switch tracks etc. from the steering wheel controls, which is great to have while driving. The device allows you to browse your iPod/iPhone by the categories:CD1 = Track #CD2 = PlaylistCD3 = AlbumIt would be a great improvement to add an "artist" sort to this also. Overall, this product does what the company told me it would do, and I am happy with it. I will probably replace it when the next version comes out with the text display though.

5Finally an iPod in my car!
By Venesa
Worked perfectly for my 2003 Audi TT. My hubby installed it as a gift for me. It took him about two hours and he had to buy some special tools that helped with the install. European radio removal tool, about $10. Now I don't know how I lived without an iPod in my car! I had to give up my six CD changer, which will no longer work with this installed, but I can still use the radio if I want to. I never do though b/c having my iPod music is all I need. So happy to have this, much cheaper than buying a whole new iPod ready stereo!!

4A few bugs, but still the best and most used mod for any E46 owner..
By chefsboss
After much debate and careful reading, and convincing myself I deserve such a birthday present, I purchased the Eonon D5113U for my 2000 BMW E46 coupe. I originally had the Business CD set up with the factory Harmann Kardon (HK) package.Although I read some reviews, many discussed graphics and features, very few mentioned my main concern, which was sound quality, but I took that gamble, and I have to say I was really impressed. The internal amp made my HK speakers not only louder, but an overall marked improvement in tone and clarity. . My speakers never sounded so good! There are a few flaws, but nothing to ever make me go back to the sad "business" CD of the past.Backing up a bit, install was fairly straight forward. although I had to search online for a DIY guide, as the included manual is pretty much useless. To do this the right and professional way, you will have to buy a new HVAC relocation kit, either online or at the dealer. they are about $100. You can do without it and sort of lay the AC controls in there,.. but don't skimp on your baby! The unit comes with 2 harnesses, one for earlier model E46, and one for later.. It is easy to figure out, one has round connectors and the other has plug type. There is also a pile of other wiring, that enables you to plug in cameras and other options..including an IPOD interface,. but for a simple install, you only need the harness and the included can bus module that enable your steering wheel buttons to control the unit.!Now I'll go through the functions and features:In general. The unit starts up pretty quick, with a shiny BMW logo. I usually let my car warm up, so it takes a few seconds... Perhaps the single most annoying thing about this unit is the problem with the memory.. What I mean is.. you're listening to the radio. You turn the car off, and then back on.. The unit will not be on the radio, it will choose some random mode, and you have to go to the home screen and click radio again. (This is a flaw, as the station presets etc.. are saved.. ) Same with DVD or CD mode, you will have to enter the home screen and hit DISC to go back,.. BUT fortunately, at least when you go back to the disc, it does save the place or song you were at when you shut down. more on DVD below, from reading it seems this whole flaw is related to the can bus controller, as if you leave it unplugged (no steering controls) this problem doesn't happen. It's up to you.. but I want my steering buttons. The screen is nice and bright. and with my tinted windows it is viewable in bright daylight. I did purchase a screen protector. I did notice it can be a bit glary, especially when you're wearing a white shirt!.. At night, it was too bright!. but I adjusted the settings. On the tools menu, there is seperate display settings, and sound settings with bass, treble, left right, back front etc.. even a seperate subwoofer control if you have one. there is also an EQ, but not a graphic one, the kind that let's you select ROCK, POP,. JAZZ etc... a little tweaking and my car has actual "thump" and bass in the seats!.The included navigation is on a Micro SD card..that plugs and stays in the unit. It worked for me right in the garage on a sunny day, with the GPS satellite picking up my location in less than a minute. On cloudy days, it takes a little longer, with a "searching for signal". I left the antenna inside my dash, if it ever gets to be an issue, I understand you can place it up on the dash or even in the headliner (There seemed to be plenty of cable and it is a magnetic round thing smaller than a palm.It works on the Windows CE platform, and you can use other software if you get it on a micro sd card. I will ad that my USA version was pretty new, as there is a new neighborhood close to me, with streets less than a year old, and they were showing up.. It is not clear how and if you can ever update the maps on this with or without additional cost.Overall the GPS works pretty good, it was spot on, for turn by turn directions. the voice instructions cut down the music for a second and there is a picture in picture function, so if your playing a music DVD, you see a little window with the DVD stuff... pretty cool!! The software is a little tricky till you learn it.. It took some playing around, and an irritating 20 minutes in rush hour traffic to cancel the darn route!. But now that I know my way around it's all good! The DVD player works great. this is what I use to play a burned multi gigabyte DVD of mp3s. the default gives you a "disable screen" once you put your car in gear... but there is a setting to fix that easy.. (not that you should be watching movies while driving... but for my music, I want to see the tracks to search around... it is touchscreen and steering wheel button controled.. The interface can be a bit of a pain till you get good at it.. sort of like a touchscreen phone, you know? the scrolling is a pain with my large thumbs... but it reads your folders on the left and songs on the right.. unforgivable is that while the units buttons have the familiar red color of the rest of your bimmer controls, the DVD interface is an unattractive blue and white which kind of makes it look goofy with the red lights. sort of like scrolling files in Windows 98. safe mode. but,.. sound quality is fantastic as mentioned earlier. and compared to the business CD, it's heaven. it would be 100% better if it looked more like the main screen, which has some fancy graphics..or if there was a screen saver or other.. but I give it a 4.75 out of 5 stars anyway. I would kill to be able to use Winamp or another media player that you can customize. this is not the case. there is a swipe transition function, sort of 3D ish. For example, if your on the radio, you can swipe left and go to the next mode, like DVD etc...There is an included analog TV function, but no included antenna. so, if you're in the USA, you can get TV with an antenna, until they go 100% digital one day.. if this is important to you, you will eventually have to buy a seperate digital tv unit and you can watch it through the auxillary inputs I'm sure...You can easily add a back up camera. There is a wire in the harness that you would connect power to from your reverse light, so when you put it in revers, and the wire gets power this overrides everything else and shows you the camera image on the screen. that will show the back up camera if you decide to purchase one. (prolly my next project)the BLUETOOTH. works good!. my cell phone sincs up automatically after setting it to do so once. (I have an android phone but supports all kinds with bluetooth) phone calls come through the speakers. there is a microphone on the front left bottom of the unit. I've read that some had trouble with this and could not be heard so well on the other end, but I have no problem, of course, I angled the unit slightly on install and my usual "pimp" seating postition has me speaking straight at it. there is no way that I know of to connect an external mic. There are some bugs with the bluetooth address book, the caller ID displays only the number. and your phone book comes through kind of strange on the screen.. for some ridiculous reason, in the order you've added the numbers in your phone..not alphabetically like a normal person designed it. I've not messed with it enough though, preferring to scroll on my phone and then call which, while it is on bluetooth puts the call through the car anyway. the steering buttons for phone work as well!. I understand you can use the bluetooth to play music from your phone as well as Pandora etc.. but I have not tried this.IPODs connect perfectly.. I tried my friends, (I am IPOD-less). There is an SD input oand a mini USB right on front of the unit (in addition to the one the map card goes in.. further, you can connect a USB extension to the back of the unit and run the wire to have a USB plug anywhere you want. It will charge and play whatever you plug in it. There are actually 2 usb inputs in the back, but only one can be used, the other is pending an android version which is expected within a year (and at a heftier price) I forgot which one, but you will have to check it all before putting it all back together.I tried to put a whole bunch of songs on a USB stick, but the unit took a long time to read them. Once it did, they sounded of the same quality as the DVD. They claim you can have up to 16 MB USB, but the reading time at the start was way too long!. I am sticking with DVD which read 4 gigs worth of files (meaning read and then ready to play) in about 30 seconds. While the above may seem a bit nitpicky, These flaws and bugs are outweighed by the good in this unit.. It is impressive, a nice interface, once you play with it a while, it is a breeze to work. for example, I harped on about the DVD interface for MP3s, but, the truth is, yo can just as easily hit the next button on the steering wheel, and it works like your old CD player.. but here you can but 5 Gigs of songs on one disc!and a scrolling touchscreen to flip therough the files.. you can put 20 CDS on one disc, and the interface will get you through them. MUCH BETTER~!.. I could almost ask for a "search" feature. I just wanted to be as detailed as I could be in this review, hope it doesn't sound negative, as I would give this an 8 out of 10. on it's own. I would give the Business CD I had a ONE. Hope that helps put it in perspective.I've had this in the car less than 2 weeks. I am really happy with this unit. and would buy it again. And I don't know how I got by so long with out! lol. All in all, this is the best MOD for my car, it looks totally factory installed, and I enjoy it everyday. What other mod will you use everyday?:?? The bugs I mentioned, are all easily worked around, and I got used to them already.I hope this helped and answered some questions Good luck and enjoy your Bimmer!

Beautiful GPS DVD stereo. Installation was easy took me about 30 minutes to take the old one out and install this one. It looks good in the car and my wife likes it. The GPS works very well with excellent reception, but I had to get a new software because the one that came with it could not find my house. The sound from this unit is very good, I have the volume at 10 with the loud option and sub-woofer off. I think the volume goes up to 40. The iPod connection is very good with volume louder than SD card and USB. The radio can scan and program itself to good reception stations.Bluetooth works great and I can play music online thru my android phone. The mic is not very sensitive. You have to yell into it to communicate.A few things I did not like:The glare during the day makes it impossible to see anything on the screen. The user interface for playing music and videos is old and does not allow smooth scrolling of the playlist. Upgrade needed here. If you have a lot of songs, it takes awhile for it to load and video takes longer. It just has a slow processor I think.

2You get what you pay for.
By Toby
This unit seems too good to be true because it is. If the canbus is installed (needed to use steering wheel controls) the unit will startup on a different screen twice before it stays on what you want it to. The Bluetooth microphone is terrible; it is the biggest reason I'm buying a Dynavin. I had to scream into it to be heard clearly and my wife was so annoyed with it that she said I either spend an extra $200 to get the Dynamic or use my wired headset when calling her, because she couldn't stand the terrible call quality. The iGo navigation system, when it would load correctly (95% of the time), did not have the newest maps (which from my limited research they can't be updated from the iGo website because Eonon is not a listed product line...sketchy if you ask me) and the voice was in broken English. The phonebook loads in order of numbers not names; which I found to be utterly useless. Additionally, the glare is so bad that you can't see the screen in the daytime. Finally, the instructions and Eonon customer service are from China and both aren't helpful/take forever to understand. I ordered the Dynavin D99 and am hoping that it's worth the extra money. Don't waste your time and money...this product isn't worth either.

5Worth the extra dough...
By Michael Couto
I have an older Peloton (517) but bought two of the Echelon (518) and really enjoy the difference in quality and ease of use. The head is heavy and sturdy and the locks are easier to reach. Actually, everything else (the tire tray) is about the same as the Peloton - it is the head and the mounting bracket that make them different. The bracket is also extremly solid, securing the carrier completely across the base of the head. The Peloton has more of a U-bolt type of bracket and it always makes me feel as if the bike could wobble a bit at high speed.I am a faithful Prime member and truly buy most everything from Amazon, including expensive cameras and tools. But for some reason I actually had a couple of returns with this product. I had ordered another Peloton first, but it came with a bolt that was not threaded properly, so I returned it and got an Echelon but it had scratches on the tray, so I returned that also and got the two Echelons at East Providence Cycle, my local bike shop.Let me also add that no store is more accomodating with returns than Amazon. I am always confident in my purchases that they will be stressfree that way.

5Updated design works great
By turbo woodchuck
Thule just replaced my broken Velo Vise V2's with new Echelons under warranty (thanks rackattack) - the old racks lasted about 4 years of very frequent use (road, cross, mtb). I couldn't be happier, and I am impressed with the updated design. These new racks are much easier to adjust for different forks, and clamp solidly to the bars and the forks. I like the redundant mounting bolts. Also, whatever issue there was with key locks (noted in another review) seems to have been fixed - the clamps lock securely. In fact, because the fork locking cam action is so smooth and has only a slight detent, I would hesitate to use these without a key lock. But since I always seem to lock the heads when a bike it attached to them this is not an issue. Looking forward to using these for many years to come.

5functions beautifully
By Harvinder Bedi
It was very easy to attach to the Aero Cross Bars, and functions beautifully. Only complaint is the XADAPT9 Brackets which need to be purchased separately for the Aero Bars. They should be part of the Carrier kit. Brackets which are supplied with the kit are for the Square Cross Bars, which are useless to someone who has the Aero Bars. I realize it costs money to add 2 types of Brackets to each Carrier kit, so why not give the consumer a choice of which Bracket they need, and supply only that Bracket.

4A really excellent product
By Dan Moore
I'm glad I didn't read the review here before I bought this unit, or I'd have missed out on what is for me a great unit. Let me address the previous review line by line with the differences I see.- no support for cd changers but many feel that because of usb drives and ipods, changers are legacy...whatever!What's a CD? Does anybody use them anymore? :)- touch screen has a sweet spot that is small and off-center so it's easy to make the wrong selection and have to waste time on a redo...Haven't noticed it yet. There is a calibration for the screen that needs/can be done so maybe that would fix your issue.- no IR functionality which means wireless remotes cannot be used and this unit really needs one...I never liked remotes in a car. I've had three head units that had remotes, including the one I just took out. Never put a battery in them. The head unit is arms length away, the remote is under the seat, stuck to a french fry, whatever. What is the remote for? I know some people like them, I just never have.- xm works great BUT xm traffic is not supported, only msn direct...Yeah, XM traffic would be better. MSN is a no go. Per their website they are shutting down the service. However, all the online reviews of this unit say getting the MSN is a no brainer, that it's data in invaluable. Go figure.- no exterior mute button....Hold down the voice prompt button and it mutes. I luckily noticed this in the manual when I was perusing it during the install.- installing the hd radio module disables regular am/fm functionality...Hmm, that's odd. I asked about it and wasn't told this was an issue. I didn't get HD radio so I cannot comment.- route guidance has no introductory statement to start your route, you just start driving and eventually it begins giving directions...Good. The less it talks the better. I have people in the car, the telephone going, stuff to remember to do. Just tell me where to turn already, skip the rest.- route guidance audio does not identify by exit number, street or exit name, just take next and you must look at screen for what next is...Hmm, good point. I didn't think about this before. I guess refer to the point above for me. Just keep me from blasting by the turn. I'll handle the rest. The road, distance, and direction of turn are on screen.- last unit i had gave me my vehicle speed as well as the current posted speed limit, this unit gives neither...Agreed! Sorta. I love having the GPS speed on screen for some strange reason. The GPS speed is available on a setup/calibration screen, but not on the main screen to my knowledge. I guess I can get my GPS calculated speed fix there. As for the speed limit on the GPS, I think I'll trust the handy dandy signs that were happily stuck in the ground for my personal amusement along the side of the road.- adding a route is real work. to start a route you must type each and every complete word exactly, it does not help you complete words with suggested common choices nor is it flexible when searching...Type in part of the word and hit enter, it'll show the most likely matches. The route seemed perfectly easy to enter to me, and thank God, the keyboard layout is a QWERTY so you know where the letter is without singing the alphabet song.- when recalculating a route, it says nothing and starts the process very slowly.Again, thank God. Say less, do more. I hate it when you are going off route manually and you don't want to key in your change. "Recalculating route....Recalculating route...etc, etc until you give in and either cancel the route or get through your detour."- there is a search by address voice function, but it's slow and awkward, using it is a real struggle...All voice commands are slow and awkward to me. I've been amazed at how accurate this thing has been so far.- no voice commands for basics such as "go home", "cancel route", etc. so you must touch screen through several menu layers for them...I haven't tried this yet. Go home should be a voice command. I agree. Good points. I did take the time to setup my custome home screen. It has icons for cancel route and go home so they are right there on the home screen. Nice.POI TRULY SUCKS...I already tried some POIs. They were not in there as often as I'd like so I agree. But, via the SD card you can load POIs so I'll give it a pass. If it's something I need I'll load it. If not, oh well. I can always look up the address. I did take the time to load some POIs just to see how this worked. I now have every Hooters in the US on my GPS. Sorta overkill as I really don't like chicken wings that much but considering how easy it was to add thousands of esoteric POI waypoints, I think it would be hard to knock what they have built in.So far, this unit has been pretty much everything I wanted. I pulled out and replaced a Clarion 675 VXD with this Pioneer. It's so much better than the Clarion it's hard to imagine. Everything works as it's supposed to on the Pioneer. Not so on the Clarion. And Pioneer is using Parrott's bluetooth technology. I love Parrott.I do have a couple of squawks that aren't mentioned previously. The unit, like everything in this country today, has a legal warning. Of course, somebody lost a lawsuit somewhere along the way and not only do we have to agree not to be stupid once, we now have to agree every time the unit boots. I've sort of resigned myself to this fact of life, however, there is a quirk with the Pioneer. Until you ok the legal screen, some of the functionality doesn't work. The iPod voice recognition it does at every boot up doesn't start until you have clicked ok and if you have just updated your iPod this VR load can take several minutes. If you are on the audio screen, as I often am, the warning screen doesn't appear. It's a navigation warning screen, so audio is playing from your last song but the unit is effectively nerfed until you click ok, no VR load, no audio commands, etc. The backup camera does work and it does immediately, which is good. It can be frustrating to jump in the car, fire up and want to start a phone conversation right away but the voice commands won't work till the VR load finishes, the VR load won't start till you click ok, and none of that will start till you click ok on the nav screen which probably isn't up and running. It would be nice if after 30 seconds you haven't clicked ok, it just times out and starts it's normal process or if the warning screen would pop up over navigation and audio so you can click ok. (Update to this note.) Turns out the issue above is actually a quirk of my installation. We may have accidentally performed a work around to eliminate the speed sensing ability of the Pioneer, which would enable the use of the navigation system, and video playback, while the vehicle is in motion. The issue I noted above is a side effect of this work around. Out of the box, this issue apparently does not exist, but you cannot use the navigation system above 10mph, which is in itself annoying in my opinion.

3I expected more from the flagship
By D. Carlile
I've had this head unit in my car for about a month now, and overall, I was expecting more from the best Pioneer has to offer. The good:The navigation system seems to be at about par with other navigation systems I have used, functionality-wise. I don't use POI, so I can't comment on that. The audio sounds far better than the stock stereo that came with my porsche.I really like the way I can make the button lights on the front perfectly match my dash lights. Also, the custom startup graphic is cool. It makes it feel like it was designed for my car.My iPhone pairs automatically through bluetooth when I start my car, and receiving and making calls works exactly as I expected.I like being able to play music directly from the sd card. The touchscreen works just the way I want it to, except I really want to flick the scrolling menus the way I can on my iPhone. You can't have everything. The not so good:I'm not amazed by the way the map looks. It doesn't look as refined or aesthetically pleasing as other systems I have used such as Garmin or Tomtom. The 3d buildings are frankly a little cheesy. The MSN service is being discontinued so there is no traffic info. One thing that really drives me batty is the way it automatically starts playing music from my iphone when I dock it, even if I am listening to another audio source. Sometimes I just want to charge my phone, and there doesn't appear to be any way to modify that functionality.I think the audio devices UI is poorly designed. I have the HD radio tuner, an iPhone dock, and Sirius radio. The HD tuner reverts to regular AM and FM when an HD signal isn't present, so there is no reason to have the regular AM and FM devices in the audio menu, yet they are still there and there is no way to make them go away. All of the other possible devices are also on the menu, just greyed out. Why do I need a greyed out XM icon in my menu? i realize I have a special menu I can customize, but it would have been much better to be able to customize all of the menus by hiding the icons I don't need. It is cluttered and clumsy. My biggest complaint is about the ui for the audio devices themselves. The ui for Sirius and HD radio are roughly the same. It seems like a generic interface was developed in order to avoid designing a custom interface for each of these devices, and it falls short. You have to push a button on the screen to cycle through the metadata associated with a song playing on Sirius, so you can never see the channel title, channel number, genre, band name, and song title at once. You can only cycle through one at a time. The preset menu is poorly implemented. In the regular AM and FM radio UI (which I don't use), when you make a preset, it displays the frequency of the channel in the area next to the preset number. In Sirius and HD radio, it is blank. You have to remeber which ones have already been set and what they are set to. I had this same level of functionality in my 1969 Chevy pickup. There is no list of Sirius channels, just a seek button where you have to click through them one by one, or type in the number, if you remember it, and who can remember that many channels? All in all, I expected more.

1huge disappointment...
By P. Shaw
we were recently in los angeles, a city that i do not know very well for a few days house hunting and needed to do a lot of driving using a car with this unit installed. after only half a day, we switched to using a $100 sony hand held with a much better result.a few observations: - the poi function is pretty much useless except to locate a bank of america; - can't locate many common poi's so it comes back with the wrong results; - no ir capability so no remote...believe me, this unit really needs one; - need to hold voice button for more than 5 seconds for mute...which is a real pain; - traffic service only available with msn direct which is now a discontinued service;- route guidance is just flat out horrible... - can't find many addresses - sometimes instructions takes you in circles - no "previously selected" for choosing city, you need to re-enter city name over and over each and every time - no introductory statement to begin your route and sometimes there is no voice for quite some time so be prepared for lots of u-turns. - slow to give guidance instructions, sometimes already passed turn or in wrong lane - no exit clarification, just "take next" is all you hear - OK button is located in the very top left corner close to and just above the SCROLL button and the sweet spot is at the bottom of the buttons so it's very easy to hit the wrong one and have to re-enter your entire route all over again. (i have done it many times) - i won't say the database is old, it finds most 2007 locations and a few 2008 locations but cannot finds some 2005 locations that my iPhone nav easily finds...go figure! - map does not display the city you are currently in (when house hunting in LA where cities run together and you take down an address, you have no idea which city it's in) - does not display your current speed or the posted speed limit - when changing map scale, display changes orientation - voice commands are limited and do not work well, for example: no commands for cancel route or for home route so you have work you way thru menu layers for them. also when using this units very limited (6 or 7) voice commands, the touch screen feature is disabled so you have to wait for this unit to tell you what your choices are before you can say them.anyone that rates this unit highly is either selling them or a complete idiot.i do not recommend this unit, it's pure rubbish!my very last anything made by pioneer! they made a lot of fixes and instead of making them available to purchasers of this model with an apology, they released the changes in a new model, the z120...??? seems pioneer is more interested in selling new units than satisfying buyers of their old units!june 10th update...sold this unit on ebay and the idiot that bought it was so excited about his purchase! ha! replaced it with a kenwood dnx6980, which actually works!

5Garmin Nuvi 3790T everything I expected and more
By WildBill
Received the Garmin 3790T four days ago. I upgraded from a from a Garmin Nuvi 760. My first comment is Wow! The size and physical design of this beauty is amazing. That's the same word that comes out of most people mouth's when I show them my new toy. Physical beauty aside this new unit really is a huge step up from my 760. The 800 x 480 pixel glass screen is incredibly clear and a huge enhance over my old unit. The multi-point screen works great. Everything about the 3970 is an improvement from the old 760. One interesting point is the 3790 picks slightly different routes than the 760 used to. I assume this is the nuRoute/trafficTrends in action. Hands down my favorite feature on the 3790 is Voice Command. When I originally bought this item I had concerns about how well this feature would work. Let me tell you it works great. I can navigate to some place, add stops or phone someone without ever having to pull over or take my hands off the wheel. What a huge safety improvement. Another seemingly small item they improved that I really like is the zooming. The map zooms in as you slow down and out as you speed up. It does it very smoothly and provides the perfect amount of data for my tastes. The traffic data is also very useful in urban areas and well presented. However this area contains my only complaint about the product. Using the traffic feature causes small little adds to occasionally pop up on the screen. They are unobtrusive and don't happen very often so far but I would prefer to find a way to turn them off. All in all I love my new Nuvi. It is one of the best purchases I've made in years.

1Worthless! (UPDATE BELOW)
By Coug Moog
I've been using Nuvis for years. Was very excited to get the new form factor Nuvi so I could give my well-worn 765 to my graduating daughter.Received my fancy new device and put it directly into service on a trip to NYC--my first time there after all these years of exploring the rest of the country.Made it through the northward routes of PA into Jersey, and then found myself at one of the famous "Jersey jughandle" intersections and unsure which lane to take for the direction I wanted to go. And the moment I stopped, I looked at my beautiful new Garmin to find out my next move. And right on top of the map was a damn Red Lobster ad, hiding the info I needed. Couldn't make it go away, couldn't see my map underneath. Let loose a stream of profanity. Then the light turned green, I began to move, the ad went away and I found I needed to be in another lane, but my moment in traffic to plan the lane change had passed.Garmin takes the only safe moment to check your map away from you--the moment you are stopped. So the only times you can check your map are when you are in motion and should have your eyes on the road.Who is the genius that came up with this garbage?I knew this problem was going to be bad in NYC traffic. But this POS had me steaming before I even entered the city. Inside the Lincoln Tunnel, once again hoping for lane info to get to my hotel, up comes a great big ad, WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION, obscuring the directions I paid my $450 plus tax to have. I damn near caused an accident with the "tourist slowdown" needed to find the right lane in time to get there.Once in the city, this thing was the very definition of useless, with ads obscuring the map every time I was at a standstill and able to look at it. When I realized I was going to be more of a problem to surrounding traffic with this thing than without it, I put it in my suitcase and went to electronics alley and got the cheapest Tom Tom on the shelf--$79.The Tom Tom outperformed this POS Garmin in every respect. If you must have the latest and greatest advertising-delivery technology, you can bid on mine on ebay.UPDATE FEB 11, 2011:Response poster Kevin looks to have solved it--the ads are the trade-off for 'free' traffic data. If I'd gone into the menus and turned traffic off, apparently the ads would have been turned off too.Living in the Balt-Wash area, I'm jaded as to the traffic functions of Nuvi units anyway--3/4 of the time they route you over to the BW parkway for massive delays on the 95. I take the 95 anyway if I'm going to the north side of D.C., and the massive delays the instrument prophesies rarely materialize.More often I get stuck on the BW Parkway and the Anacostia, where the brilliant Garmin device is routing me and everybody else who has one. So I've pretty much stuck to the 95 and had better luck in the past year or so. I've firmed up my ego by practicing my skills at saying 'no' to a female voice issuing commands. First I was answering her with unprintables, then I just smiled and said 'yes, dear,' while ignoring her and continuing my chosen route. Now that advertiser-supported traffic is the norm for Garmin, if I should buy another Nuvi I'll just remember to switch the feature off. It seems to have limited utility anyway. So, potential Nuvi buyers: if the ads get in your way, pull over, go into the menus, and turn off the traffic update feature. Then I think you won't have any more problems with gigantic banner ads obscuring your maps.

5Crisp Display, Super Thin, Wonderful GPS!
By Michael
I just got my Nuvi 3790 today and I must say it is by far the best GPS I have owned. I have owned Garmins, TomToms, Navigons, and Magellans. The display is super crisp and bright. Even in bright sunlight. I had my Nuvi 1690 up next to it. The 1690 was washed out, the 3790 was very, very bright.I transferred my favorites (waypoints) from the 1690 without a hitch. Also installed traffic cameras... no problem (UPDATE - the traffic cameras I installed were from GPS POI which I have used on other Garmin units without a problem. They did not appear on this unit. I understand there is some kind of bug Garmin is working on. I used the Garmin POI Loader, as I have in the past. I downloaded the Garmin Safety Cameras for the US, which they didn't have a while back and they do show up, but I need to see what happens when I come across them.). I tried the voice command and it worked surprisingly well. I had used a TomTom with voice control and this was far superior. You get a list of commands on the screen and I had no problem activating the feature simply by saying, "Voice Command.' Picked me up without a hitch. Only once did it seem to freeze on me and for a minute I thought I would have to do a reset, but I said another command and it cleared. (UPDATE - I really like the voice command feature. It makes things so much easier while moving. I am not a 'voice' person but this has come in very useful. Rarely does it miss a beat. If it does I just repeat and it gets it.)The unit is super thin. In fact, I almost lost my grip on it a few times it is so thin. I bought the Garmin case for it and it fits very well. Easily fits in my shirt pocket.I did a backup on the hard drive, which by the way is a whopping 8 GB, using a little over 4 GB -- room for expansion indeed. I couldn't select all on my mac and get them all to copy over, but I burned a DVD and pretty much everything was copied from what I could tell. It took about 25 minutes or so.The unit did get pretty warm in use, perhaps because of the black back and the sun. I haven't used it at night to tell if that is it. (UPDATE - it doesn't seem to get as warm now even with the sun hitting it. Perhaps the electronics needed to get 'burned in' and all is well.)I live in northern Virginia and was not able to pick up traffic. My 1690 was showing traffic in the same areas. The 1690 is cell-connected, the 3790 is FM.In comparison with the 1690 with most detail selected, the 3790 is pretty much about the same in many areas, perhaps a bit more in others. No complaints about that at all so far.I do like the ability to rotate the screen. I didn't think I would but I like the portrait view. It gives me more of where I am going rather off to the sides. I will need to experiment with it.Routing is a bit different than my 1690. I will see how it evolves in its learning my routes. Calculation seems quick. It did take a while to lock in after being powered off, but nothing appreciable.I can easily pack this, or put it in my shirt pocket and take it most places.A great GPS. Pricey, but wonderful. This is the iPhone 4 of the GPS world. Nothing comes close to the beauty of the 3790._______________________Update - 7/6/10The Junction Views on this appear more often than they did on my 1690. Same map version, but obviously updated Junction Views. I have read that in Europe they have photo realistic Junction Views and from the pictures they look very good. Hopefully they will update the US Junction Views to photo realistic ones.... makes for a much nicer picture. (UPDATE - in portrait mode the junction view is on the top half of the screen and you still see the road and your 'vehicle' moving in the bottom half of the screen. In landscape mode junction view takes up the entire screen.)Also, the software user interface is different in this unit and while it offers pretty much what the 1690 software does, many things are in different places. For instance the last position you are at when you remove the unit from the mount in the 1690 was found under favorites. In the 3790 it is found under parking - last stop.Best thing is to explore all the menus and see what's there. Very nice indeed.7-10-10... Some tips.... To power on push the on/off button and wait to hear the click. Let go at that point. To power off, you need to HOLD the power button down until you see a power off screen asking you to make a choice. Otherwise, if you hold the on/off button down briefly and let go, it goes into standby and when you push the on/off button to turn it 'on' you get a lock screen, at which point you hit the lock icon and it comes to life. This is not turning the unit off - just putting it into standby mode. For a quick return to where you left it, standby works great, but not for long periods of time as it uses up the battery. If the car power is lost the unit goes into standby, not power off. If you pull it off the mount, nothing happens. Interesting.

5Easy to Install and Looks Great!
By Greg
As I have said in another review, as far as I am concerned on my 1999 Honda Valkyrie Interstate, Chrome = Good! This covers the drab metal of the transmission and I prefer the look. It was easy to install. Just take your time and follow the instructions.

4Great Overall product
By Jack of all trades
Alright so lets start, this unit is a great piece, it was well worth the time and money spent. So, one thing I did not realize when i bought it, was that a separate control unit comes with this so that your a/c controls change the screen above your vents. This would not be a problem, but the cables they give you to connect to this unit are pretty short and it took a minute or two to set this all up under the driver side dash. All the controls function, and with this control unit it no longer displays radio station, cd and track, but instead you can put your name or whatever you want to type in up there. Still leaves the outside temperature displayed and the clock which will also now be set with the ac buttons. One thing that took me another minute and I hope I can save someone else time is that the white clips that clip into the dash from the back of your stock stereo will need to be used on this piece to clip it in. Oh and the one last thing is that the lip on the inside of this face was pushing against my head unit so it wouldn't clip in fully, so I just trimmed down the inside lip and now fits perfectly.Pro's:1. Great quality, everything works as described2. Fits excellently into the stock stereo position, and looks clean cut3. The control unit retains everything of the a/c and the display screenCon's:1. Honestly my only real con was I wish the lines to the control unit were longer, otherwise it would have been 5 stars

2Horrible for the Price

First off let me just say that this product did do its job sort of. Alright so my three complaints about this product is that it did not fit my double din radio at first and required me to shave down all the sides, after I finally got it to fit I then noticed that three of my HVAC unit lights where lit up and I could not get them to go off so now I am stuck with trying to guess what modes I am in, and lastly I can not change the letters in my display cause it will not scroll left or right so now I am stuck with it saying METRA's RX8. For this unit costing this much one would expect it to be flawless but it is far from it and METRA should be ashamed of producing such a low quality product.

5Great fit...not the easiest install

This is a true "plug n play" system. Unfortunately Mazda made Rx8's not so friendly. Install took some time but as soon as it was all in, I couldn't be happier! Awesome product
