I installed this along with the DSP unit in my 2001 BMW E38 recently and for the most part, the features on this item do work. The main reason I purchased this is because it allowed me to upgrade my car with more modern technology somewhat easily & allowed continued usage of my existing equipment (same stereo, monitor & steering wheel controls). Below is my opinion on the MB features:' Bluetooth syncing with my phone (blackberry flip) grade = 90%;' connection & accessing music on a usb stick & on my ipods (both iTouch & regular ipod), grade = 95%' music controls via the steering wheel work ok; grade = 80-85%' installation process was not too difficult depending on where you want to locate the brick (MB module), grade = 90%' text display on OEM monitor did not work well. grade = 70%' sound quality was excellent using Bluetooth (calls are played through car speakers), USB music or iPods. grade = 100%The minuses for each feature:1) Bluetooth syncing took a few attempts to work, but once it did it automatically synced with my phone every time I got in the car afterwards (i.e. after turning the ignition off & returning to the car a the next day or so).2) The physical connection and recognition by the MB was "dead on" & true plug & play without any glitches. While the music is playing I can actually remove USB drive from the MB & plug in my ipod via the USB connector on that same port & immediately recognizes the switch & will begin playing music from the device. sweeeeet! Only downside is not seeing a visual display of the switch. more later3) The MB allows you to choose various modes of music categorization as given on your ipod: songs, albums, artists, playlists (or folders if using a usb drive). The existing steering controls allow you to switch tracks (up or down), folders, or change albums,etc depending on the mode selected. this seemed to work well, but on occasion it would not recognize the initial button command. Often I would have to press the steering wheel button a couple of time before it recognized the command.4) Lastly the most annoying feature is the inability to display the text in right size format. It often is garbled especially if the display is in scroll mode and apparently this has been a problem for some time and is still ongoing. See this link for pics: [...]I registered a complaint with DICE about this annoyance but as of now (2 weeks), I have yet to hear back from them. If this display glitch were corrected this thing would be outstanding, but as it stands I would grade it overall ~85%.

I used this to get a Bluetooth phone connection and Ipod connectivity into a 2006 Mini that had neither. In many ways it would have been a tidier solution to simply install a new receiver unit with those capabilities, but the architecture of the factory HK system is such that integrating a new unit with the steering wheel controls and the installed amplifier is a lash-up with multiple adapters. This seemed like a cleaner solution. The unit itself seems well made and the installation was as easy as it gets. The documentation leaves something to be desired, but things get clearer after you play with it a bit. Basically, this does what it promises with a couple of limitations that are really inherent in the host system, not the Mediabridge. The main one is that incoming phone calls will not interrupt the radio. When the phone rings, you have to use the Mode button to switch to the Mediabridge, then the track advance button to answer the call. The phone buttons on the steering wheel are not operative. Considering that the Mediabridge works through the CD changer interface, there is probably no way to avoid this, but it is a nuisance. Dialing is strictly from the phone itself. In Ipod mode, I listen mostly in album mode. Here the steering wheel and head unit controls allow you to switch between tracks, but don't allow you to switch albums - that you have to do from the Ipod itself. (If there is a way, I haven't found it and the documentation doesn't help.) Again, not a big deal, but it is not quite a fully-integrated system. I don't want to downrate it for these issues but it is worth knowing that it's not a totally seamless interface.

I have several vehicles with Ford Media Sync so I'm used to having a lot of functionality from the vehicles voice commands. Let me say flat out that I didn't expect it to be anything like the media sync which has excellent integration and allows you to play songs by artist, title, genre, playlist etc all by voice command. Media sync will also dial contacts by spoken name or number and does a whole lot of other things.I purchased this item for our 2006 Z4 BMW equipped with the business CD head unit. In some ways it actually surpasses the newest ford media sync systems. I had NO idea when buying this that it would offer a complete interface with Siri. I think this basically changes the entire product and makes it immensely more useful. The voice button on the steering wheel accesses Siri through the car audio. This means that all that functionality I mentioned in the ford system is now in the BMW. You can dictate emails, text messages, make calls, get GPS navigation instructions, play songs and playlists and answer the phone without ever touching the phone.With an iphone 4s this product is amazing. I would have been satisfied with hands free phone and music streaming which was what I originally bargained for. However, with the Siri integration this has as much or more functionality then the ford system and a lot more functionality then the newest Mercedes system. I might have to actually look at one of these for a new mercedes since I feel the 5 year old BMW system can now do more then the brand new factory mercedes system. The Siri integration makes this an outstanding product.
