2HEADACHES!!!
By Brian A. Nelms
The most frustrating part of this purchase was that I bought a product that needed a firmware update and it took a lot of time and energy to get the issue resolved and JVC was reluctant to correct the issue in a satisfactory manner. So here is the story... First off the radio was $60 more when I purchased it just 2 months ago. I paid roughly $280 for it. Second of all as stated by a couple other users there is/was a glitch with this radio and some vehicles. What happens is that once every 1-2 weeks the stereo would just not turn on at all. Turning off the car and turning back on would do nothing and the radio would appear to be dead. I initially thought it was a wiring problem and that I had made a mistake. So I tore apart my dash a good 8-10 times trying to figure out what the problem was. Everytime when I would try the radio again after disconnecting the wiring harness it would start right up but lose all my settings, clock time, radio stations. So everytime this would happen I realized I could just unplug my car battery for a few seconds and then reconnect it and it would restart my stereo. Then after doing some reading on here and Crutchfield I realized that it was a defect with the radio. As one of the other users stated there USED TO BE a patch on JVCs website. No matter how much googling and searching around I could not find the patch. So I decide to call JVC Customer Support and they tell me that I have to mail my receiver to their service repair office in NY at MY EXPENSE and they would not give me the firmware update that was needed to fix my stereo and it had to be updated my a service center. So not only have a spent a huge chunk of time trying to troubleshoot but now they expected me to pay for shipping as well. I escalated the call to a manager and they gave me a free shipping label. Then as I was getting ready to pull my stereo out AGAIN and mail it in I figured I would call JVC again and try to argue my way into getting the firmware emailed to me. Well it took me talking to 3 different JVC reps and about 5 phone calls but they finally did email me the firmware update. I have patched my radio and haven't had the problem since but what a long painful road it was to get a functioning stereo.A couple other minor things that I ran across are that if you are going to use Bluetooth you have to choose that option the very first time you start your stereo, otherwise you will not be able to find the option to turn it on without power resetting your stereo. Another bug is that if you are reading music from a thumb drive certain files will cause your reader to crash and start with song 1 track 1 of what's on your thumb drive. Meaning that once I get out of my car and get back in the stereo usually remembers what song and position I was on. After adding some m4a music files the stereo started at album 1 song 1 like the first time I used the thumb drive everytime I started my car back up. So I removed the m4a files and now it works fine again.

3when it works it is alright

i have had this radio for a little over a week now and it has crashed 3 times now. its very frustrating resetting all of my stations, audio settings and display settings every few days. i have triple checked all of my wiring and ground so im not sure what is causing the problem. i have a repair/replace request sent out to jvc to try and remedy the problem. other than that the radio seems to be ok, it has a lot of options for its price.update: after several week with this radio and resetting all of my settings a grand total of 26 times (yes i kept count) i have given up. after many communications with jvc i have decided to part ways with this radio. the problem with the radio is that apparently my vehicle takes too long to crank. jvc said there is an update for this problem but it must be returned to them for an update. unfortunately, the closest repair facility to me is an hour and a half away. jvc wont pay for shipping to and from said facility and they wont exchange it either. so, being a stand up company, amazon is taking it back. let the radio search begin...agian.

1Ripped-off!!!!

First, just a few months ago, I paid $100 more for the SAME item here on Amazon. We started having problems with it crashing constantly, and it turns out, JVC has a KNOWN ISSUE. A firmware update seems to fix it. However, the only way you can get it is to send the radio to New York, and it will cost over $60!!!That is NONSENSE!!! The problem isn't with the buyer, it's with JVC!!!!I will NEVER buy another JVC product ever again!!!(Can't give it zero stars, unfortunately!)UPDATE: I talked with customer service, and the rep basically said, "Too bad, so sad, but if you want it fixed, send us the money!!" I told her that this is no way to treat customers who purchase their products. The problem is with JVC...NOT the customer. And, the "fix" is ONLY available in NY...not at any of the local service centers, and it is not available via download from their website. She would not relent..."We still have to be paid for working on the radio!" So, I asked to speak to her supervisor. She put me on hold for quite some time, then came back to get my address, before turning me over to the supervisor. In short, he said he would send the firmware update. So, I have to give him credit for doing the right thing, but I still think that JVC is WRONG for charging people $60 + S/H to fix a DEFECTIVE radio that shouldn't even be permitted to be sold without the firmware update!! I will provide another update once the update is installed.
