5Good radio to have.
By Greg T. Chance
I have had the unit in my 2005 f150 for about 3 weeks now. I have not had any problems with it at all. Very glad I bought this radio.I have used the bluetooth link to connect to my android phone for playing music from both pandora and from the google music service. Both have played very well with no static that I have heard. When I get into my truck the phone and radio will get a bluetooth connection within 10 seconds and it will start playing over bluetooth whatever the last thing I was playing from my phone. Also have used the usb drive to play music that I have downloaded. Have about 5 gigs of music on it. This does take about 30 seconds to access the music when you turn to the usb drive. So if you want to jump from the usb drive to radio and back again it does take it about 30 seconds to access and read the drive. After it has accessed the drive you can pick and choose whatever music you want through the search menu by the artist name, then which album, then to which song. When doing this it will play the music with no hesitating when playing whatever song you pick. However it does not show the album art when playing from a usb drive. The HD radio sounds great on whatever channel you are listening too, but the hd stations do come in with a better sound. I have not done a trip far enough out of the city to see how it will work in a rual area with low radio signal strength so can not say yet how good it picks up in that situation. I will try to remember to see how this works on my next trip to see family out in the country.I do not have either an ipod or an iphone so I can not say how well the built in pandora works or the ipod music playing capabilities. The back up camera that I have ordered has not came in yet so I have not installed it, so cannot say how well that will work either. So to wrap up this has been a very good buy and have been enjoying this radio.

4In general, quite pleased with this radio

I had the JVC avx 720 which I just replaced. It is also a 7" DVD receiver. I changed it because the optional bluetooth accesory was totally worthless. I lost my money ($ 100) and my trust in JVC products.Bought this Pioneer as I had a previous unit in my wife's car and works very well.My comments up to now (3 days)Interface is very good, fast, easy to use while driving as it has big letters and symbols to navigate. Changing from one song to the next with the ipod is very fast.Sound is also much better that the JVC unit as it comes with Loudness.Pairing my Samsung Android took just one minute, all of my adressbook is shown, and you can hear very well the person on the other side. Seems it is quite clear for the person receiving the call as well.Only problem this far is I cannot adjust video while driving. I have a second screen for the kids, but cannot setup the output video from the unit. All in all, much better that the JVC unit, which in total with the bluetooth accesory was $ 450.Regards

4So close...

First, let me say I am extremely picky. So things that bother me may not bother the average person.I installed the AVH-P4400BH a week month ago in my 2011 Honda Fit. The install was mostly uneventful thanks to the free dash kit/wiring harness I got since I ordered this from Crutchfield.I was initially hesitant to buy a touch screen unit since I've seen many that either work poorly (don't respond to touches well), look crappy (low resolution) or have poorly designed menus. I have to say this AVH-P4400BH is top notch on these items. The touch screen works very well, the resolution while not iPhone crisp is fine for text, images and the occasional movie, and the menus are for the most part logical and efficient (with a few exceptions). I appreciate that icons and text are large for easy reading and touching while driving. The anti-glare coating on the screen works well to prevent glare and keep fingerprints at a minimum, but I find it a little milky looking on the screen during the day, which lowers the contrast some. Ideally they should have gone with a less aggressive coating. This may be caused by the fact that my dashboard is sloped toward the windshield, which allows more sun to hit the screen. At night the screen is nothing short of amazing!Sound quality so far is very good through the factory speakers - strong internal amp with very little distortion - the factory speakers give out before the head unit does. I hope to be installing all of my aftermarket speakers, amps and sub in the coming weeks and will update this review at that time.I like the "Favorites" menu that allows you to group all of your favorite menu items onto one customizable menu which is then accessible from any screen. The drop down front panel is very cool and seems well built and sturdy. The 8 band EQ was important to me, since going to a double din unit required me to leave my Sony EQ out of the picture. It works very well. The Sonic Center Control option does not seem to work. From what little information I could find out about it, it appears to be a form of adjustable digital time alignment for the left and right channels (no front/rear adjustments. Now if this option actually worked, this would be an important feature for me since I'm big on an accurate sound stage, but alas it does not seem to work. I've been thinking of purchasing the optional Pioneer microphone for this head unit and then just maybe the head unit will manage the time alignment. I might send another email to Pioneer about this issue.I wish the physical volume and track buttons on the bottom edge of the face were knurled or somehow easier to identify by touch alone. As it stands, they are perfectly smooth and flat and require you to look down at them to place your finger. It just makes you wonder if Pioneer ever tested this in a vehicle during the design phase. This continues to annoy me and will likely cause me to buy the Honda audio control buttons for my steering wheel and the Metra converter box as well. Money I did not want to spend. The Bluetooth audio is really nice! Streaming from my iPhone 4 works flawlessly and the sound quality is surprisingly good. I not only get music, but also spoken GPS directions, audio from TED talks, text message alerts - pretty much any sound happening on the phone comes through the speakers. What I don't like is you cannot search for a song, artist or album, whatever plays is what you get. It doesn't seem that the repeat or random buttons work in this mode at all either. That's a big negative to me, but that might be a limitation of Bluetooth and not the head unit - not sure.Bluetooth telephony also works well. With the car sitting still, I was told it was barely noticeable that I was even on a Bluetooth speaker phone. I also had successful calls with the car driving at slower speeds on back roads and it worked well. Now my Honda Fit is a kind of noisy car, so I doubt I'd want to carry on a long conversation while at highway speeds, but for quick calls it should be okay. Quieter cars would fare better with this.My biggest concern with the Bluetooth phone is the lack of a mute option. I am unable to mute the microphone on my end and this is a huge issue for me. I have half hour long meetings while driving but only need to talk for maybe 30 seconds or so and I need to mute the microphone the rest of the time so my entire team doesn't hear road noise the whole meeting.I called Crutchfield about this first and they looked at the AVH-P4400BH, AVH-P8400BH and several comparable models from other manufacturers and none had a mute option except for a Clarion nav unit. I then emailed Pioneer and they told me straight up that the option does not exist on the 4400. This is a HUGE over-sight to me and it seems like a no-brainer to include it, but most manufacturers apparently do not. So suddenly I cannot use the Bluetooth telephone on my work calls or I need to park somewhere while on the call and I have a hard time swallowing that. Crutchfield told me I can return the head unit if I'm not satisfied in the first 30 days. I'm hesitant to do that, since the unit is otherwise very good and it appears other units don't have the mute option anyway.I'm considering installing a manual mute button that will just interrupt the microphone, but that will need to be built and tested. Just sucks that I have to go that route. Another reviewer made mention that the mute button on my iphone will successfully mute and un-mute the microphone. This works, but it is lame to have to take my phone out and use the controls on it when it's the job of bluetooth to handle these tasks - AAAAAAAARGH!Lastly, the owner's manual is absolutely horrible. It makes assumptions, has you jumping all over the place and barely explains some options. It certainly doesn't help that it covers three different models as well, so you need to make sure you are reading about the correct one. Just horrible.
