4Must have for Jeep YJ
By J. Humphrey
Purchased the Posi Lock for my YJ Jeep. Install instructions are pretty decent, but if you're not mechanically inclined, expect to this project to take most of your day. Once installed, remember to pull forward slightly to get the "positive lock" of the shifter fork to engage the axle.Pros:-"Positive" engaged front axle.-No failure of 4wd, once properly engaged. No more vacuum failures or releasing if sunk in mud due to axle "cool down" (and finding out you dont have 4wd at the most inopportune time!)-Allows you to operate in 2Lo (something that you can't do, unless you have Posi Lock)Cons:-Have to drill a rather large hole through your firewall-Posi lock cable is much larger than you would think (and can be dangerous when you unbox it, its coiled and WILL whip)-Routing the cable through the engine compartment can be tedious-Removing / installing the fork into the case can be a pain-Mounting the cable in the cab is somewhat problematicOverall, even though there seems to be more "cons" than "pros" to the system, the ultimate goal is to get the 4wd engagement when you need it. After installing this, I would install it again, its pretty much the only way to go if you trail ride your YJ.

4Good option
By DAN
I have a 1989 YJ. Typical of an older jeep the pump to front engage the front wheels stopped working in 4WD. Having a jeep with out 4WD is pointless. Instead of replacing the faulty pump, I installed this posi lock set up. I have had it for a 1 1/2 year with no problems. I live in Vermont and use my jeep as my daily driver. This winter I have needed 4WD several times to get me to work and in the summer I run my jeep off road. So far this set up has been well worth it.The only down side is you probably should stop to engage this. No 4wd on the go.
